Marvel History 142: Strange Tales # 120

Issue: Strange Tales # 120
Writer: Stan Lee
Artist: Jack Kirby 1st story, Steve Ditko 2nd story
Publication Date: May 1964
Commentary:

A proud superhero team up tradition begins here when Iceman and Human Torch get together for the first time.  Again, Stan is trying to promote the X-Men through appearances in some of what I would assume are the more popular Marvel comics.

In the backup story, Dr. Strange banishes a creature from another space-time continuum.  The creature claims it just wanted to observe, but Strange is obdurate here, and despite objections, he forces the creature out of our reality.  It is a little disappointing that Strange refuses to even hear the creature out.

Quick Thoughts:

  • Iceman mentions being cold at the moment after he melts off his ice form
  • Iceman uses an early version of his ice slide
  • Dormammu gets another shout out by Doc Strange

Favorite Panel:

The Eye of Agamotto in action.
