Marvel History 166: Journey into Mystery # 107

Issue: Journey into Mystery # 107
Writer: Stan Lee
Artist: Jack Kirby
Publication Date: August 1964
Brief Summary:

Well, Thor fights the Grey Gargoyle, who, while he might have been Quasimodo's best friend, is an enemy to pretty much everyone else.  His power to turn people to stone only last an hour, and when he turns himself to stone, he remains animate.  Also, the Grey Gargoyle can't turn Thor's hammer to stone.  He also can't lift it, which was pretty much his whole plan.  So, as you might imagine, the Grey Gargoyle loses this one.

Quick Thoughts:

  • A police officer says the Avengers have "top federal priority," whatever that means.
  • Thor loans some equipment from his pal Iron Man
  • Loki tries to kill the immortal Baldur in the backup story
